Sanja Kupesić Plavšić

Sanja Kupesic Plavsic, MD, PhD is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Senior Associate Academic Dean for Faculty Development, and Director of the Center for Advanced Teaching and Assessment in Clinical Simulation (ATACS) at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas, USA.

Until now Dr. Kupesic has published 214 peer-reviewed articles and authored/coauthored 486 book chapters. Her work was cited more than 4,800 times. She has edited 24 books, four slide atlases, two video tapes and four educational DVDs. In a capacity of invited speaker she attended 284 national and/or international meetings.

For her accomplishments in research and teaching Dr. Kupesic received major local, regional and national awards including dean’s innovation in medical education award, professor of the year award, residents’ teaching award, dean’s excellence in teaching award, and special recognition for outstanding contribution to institutional faculty development and mentoring programs. She was the author of innovative clinical presentation based curriculum for reproductive medicine at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, and leader of a successful International Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation site visit leading to 5 year full accreditation of her center in core standards, teaching/education, research and assessment in clinical simulation in April 2017.

In 2005 Dr. Kupesic Plavsic was awarded with the international William Liley award for her contribution to the field of human reproduction, perinatal medicine and ultrasound. In 2014 she became a member of the International Academy of Human Reproduction, and honorary professor at Buenos Aires University in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University in Moscow, Russia.

Currently Dr. Kupesic is as a secretary of the Fetus as a Patient international society, and executive board member of the Ian Donald Interuniversity School of Ultrasound. She serves as peer reviewer for 23 major international journals, and editorial board member of the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine, and Donald School Journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her major research interests include ultrasound in human reproduction, medical education and clinical simulation.
